“Beauty Is…”
What is the Reflections Program? The Reflections Program is a National PTA arts
recognition program for students in preschool through grade 12. Each year, the program
challenges students to create art that supports a specific theme. The program offers
students the opportunity to create works of art in four areas: literature, musical
composition, photography and the visual arts (for example – drawing, painting, print
making and collage). In addition to these four traditional categories, Washington State
PTA has two non-traditional categories: film/video and choreography/dance.
This year, our theme is “Beauty Is…”. For examples of past entries, go to the National
PTA’s site (http://www.pta.org/reflections) and click on the 2008

Why should my child participate? This is a wonderful way to showcase our children’s artistic efforts. When children express themselves through words, pictures, music, photography, and other art forms, they grow intellectually. They learn to analyze their thoughts, feelings, and ideas. They learn to look at things, people, and experiences in a fresh and exciting way, and they become more interested in the ideas and works of others.
Recognition Reception: Every student who participates in the Blackwell Reflections Program will be recognized for their contribution at a reception
on October 22nd with Principal Bryant in the Commons. The students’ works will be on display for the school and parents to see. Selected works are chosen to represent the school at the district level. From there, works from around the district are chosen to go on to the state level. The state PTA may select entries to submit to the national PTA.
How are the art works recognized? Every student who participates in the
Blackwell Reflections Program will be recognized for their contribution at our
awards reception. The students’ art work will be judged against others in the
same grade division. Selected works are chosen to represent the school at the
district level. The first and second place district winners go on to the state.
The state PTA may select entries to submit to the national PTA.
